Choplét works out whether we deliver to you by looking your postcode up in a public dataset published by the Office for National Statistics. It tells us which council area a postcode sits in, and we deliver to the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.
We hold a copy of that dataset ourselves rather than calling somebody else’s service, so a check never depends on a third party being up. It contains postcodes, their approximate centre point, and the council each belongs to. It contains no personal data.
Required attribution
The dataset is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which requires us to reproduce the following notices:
- Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026
- Contains Royal Mail data © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2026
- Source: Office for National Statistics licensed under the Open Government Licence v.3.0
Which edition we hold
The August 2026 edition of the ONS Postcode Directory. We check monthly for a newer one. A postcode created since then may not be recognised yet — if that happens, please get in touch and we will sort it out.
Northern Ireland
Postcodes beginning BT are not included. Northern Ireland’s postcode data needs a separate commercial licence from Land and Property Services, which we have not taken out, so we do not hold it at all.
